SONG EVOLUTION: NO TEARS (From Tuxedomoon to Adult.)

Tuxedomoon started making music in the late 70's at the beginning what was considered the Punk Rock Movement. Frontmen, Steve Brown and Blaine L. Reininger, used electronic violins, guitars, and synthesizers to develop a signature sound, calling the style "cabaret no-wave.' With harsh vocals on top of the music, they are well respected as pioneers of their sound.

When Bassist Peter Principle joined the band and in 1979 they released their single, "No Tears." This is probably one of their most known tracks to date.

                                                                                     ORIGINAL VERSION:

ADULT.
"No tears for the creatures of the night
No tears
My eyes are dry
Goodbye
I feel so hollow I just don't understand
Nothing's turned out like I-- like I planned
My head's exploding
My mouth is dry
I can't help it if I've forgotten how to cry
No tears for the creatures of the night'

ADULT. is a husband/wife duo electronic music group. Beginning as Plasma Co, they were drawn to eachother artistically and have a way of defying any actual genre of sound. After several years being considered the pioneers of 'electro,' (a dubious honor according to them)they started coming out as full on artistic perfomers who have many talents, including photography, art, and film creation. I cannot express how much I adore their music. Anyway, They also covered, ' No Tears.'

ADULT. VERSION:

The song evolved beautifully from classic punk to classic electronic, while carrying the same dark, ghoulish harmonies, melodies and panicked sound. Both version stand on their own, but compliment each other brilliantly.

Music Review: ADULT. "The Way Things Fall."

 By Matthew Mullins

ADULT. are known for their dark, electronic sound, but you may be surprised to hear their hearts in this new brooding LP.

Die-hard fans are sure to enjoy this, but those who expect another dose of "anger-meets-youth" sound--might be disappointed.

ADULT. has truly grown up.

You always knew that their hearts were there underneath the heavy beats, hard-hitting synth, and maladjusted loud vocals on their previous CDs, but on "The Way Things Fall" we get a more introspective, clear view of how they see the world.  It is both hopeful and bleak at the same time, while remaining just on the outskirts of pop, and in my opinion, it's a good album overall.

Nicola Kuperus' voice is alive on this album adding more emotion than ever before. Her style has always been morphing and developing over the years and on this album, it's a great balance of all the idiosyncrasies that define her voice.

Adam Lee Miller creates a much more synthy and colorful textured landscape of sound with a variety in tempo and beats to keep it interesting.

All in all, The Way Things Fall is quite a departure from their previous work, but that's a good thing. ADULT. is very adult on this album, and things fall quite beautifully.

At the highest point in the album, a track called, "Nothing Lasts," glows brilliantly with the words, "It's what we, we really want! But what you want, and what you need can be the same, because sometimes you lose and sometimes you gain!"
