Music Review: ADULT. "The Way Things Fall."

 By Matthew Mullins

ADULT. are known for their dark, electronic sound, but you may be surprised to hear their hearts in this new brooding LP.

Die-hard fans are sure to enjoy this, but those who expect another dose of "anger-meets-youth" sound--might be disappointed.

ADULT. has truly grown up.

You always knew that their hearts were there underneath the heavy beats, hard-hitting synth, and maladjusted loud vocals on their previous CDs, but on "The Way Things Fall" we get a more introspective, clear view of how they see the world.  It is both hopeful and bleak at the same time, while remaining just on the outskirts of pop, and in my opinion, it's a good album overall.

Nicola Kuperus' voice is alive on this album adding more emotion than ever before. Her style has always been morphing and developing over the years and on this album, it's a great balance of all the idiosyncrasies that define her voice.

Adam Lee Miller creates a much more synthy and colorful textured landscape of sound with a variety in tempo and beats to keep it interesting.

All in all, The Way Things Fall is quite a departure from their previous work, but that's a good thing. ADULT. is very adult on this album, and things fall quite beautifully.

At the highest point in the album, a track called, "Nothing Lasts," glows brilliantly with the words, "It's what we, we really want! But what you want, and what you need can be the same, because sometimes you lose and sometimes you gain!"
